Intel WiDi (4.0.18.0) keep asking for security code

Hi,

This start happening some time ago, I was hoping for a fix but nothing changed (I am now on version 4.0.18.0). Every time when I connect to my Netgear PTV2000 I get asked for the security code. I use Windows 7 x64. I think this start happening with version 3.5.x or something don't remember exactly, but for sure it was not there on beginning when I got the adapter. If I remember well the initial firmware (and WiDi version) just asked for a 4 digit code, once and I did not have to enter it anymore after. After one of the updates which includes also a firmware update the code changed is more digits and each time I connect I need to enter. I reseted Netger to factory settings uninstalled and reinstalled the WiFi, WiDi software and drivers but to no effect. So what is the fix ? Just don't tell me that this is a feature and is by design. This alone almost kills WiDi for me (it's faster to plug an HDMI cable than to key code each time). Thank you.

How to get Pro WIDI Management Tools Software?

$

According to the Pro WIDI whitepaper:

widi requirements.JPG

We have 3rd Generation vPro laprtops that support WIDI. I have tested them and WiDi works.  The problem we have is that this manual configuration will be very labor intensive if we have more just one or two WiDi devices in the office  and I don't see any way of preventing users who connect from changing settings on the WiDi device (such as changing the name label etc.)

How do we determine if these WiDi laptops are also Intel "Pro-WiDi" certified?

They are HP 9470m laptops with Core i5-3427U CPUs with Centrino Advanced-N 6205 and HD Graphics 4000.

If these are Pro-WiDi certified, how do we get the management software to set up Pro-Widi features?

Intel Widi and Samsung TV connected once but will not connect again

I have an Intel EliteBook with latest Intel Widi and the required drivers installed. I have a Samsung UA40F6400 and after several unsuccessful attempts I was able to connect my laptop wirelessly to my TV. But this happened just once...it hasn't connected again so far. Here's how I was able to connect that one time:

1) Start Intel Widi on laptop

2) Put your Samsung TV in Screen Mirroring mode through All Share (or clicking source button and selecting Screen Mirroring).

3) Scan for wireless display in Intel Widi

4) Intel Widi detects the Samsung TV showing its name and status as available

5) Click "Connect" against the display on Intel Widi

6) A Pin is shown on the TV which you need to enter in to Intel Widi

7) After the pin was entered, the laptop display is mirrored on the TV screen.

I was able to play a whole movie this way from laptop to TV with good sound without interruption but I have not since been able to do this again. Steps #1 to #5 are completed but nothing after that meaning no PIN is shown for connection and it stays in this connecting mode. Not sure what changed. But if was able to connect it once, this means Intel Widi and this Samsung model are compatible but some piece is missing randomly in between. Any help would be appreciated.

"add a wireless display" missing in action

So I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 and cannot seem to get Wi-Di working again to save my life.  It worked fine in Windows 8, but not 8.1.  Here are the vital statistics

Processor: Core i5-4200U

Network Card: Intel AC7260

Network Driver: 16.5.3.6

Video Driver: 10.18.10.3316

When I run the Windows 8.1 tool it indicates that everything is up to date and should run.  The issue is that when I select the Charms Menu -> Devices -> Project I see options to choose how things are displayed on a second monitor.  There is no option to "add a wireless display" or even disconnect from a second display.  Just to be clear I do not have my computer connected to either a second display or the wireless display.  I have inserted a screenshot below - any help would be appreciated

Initiating connection from the TV

Good afternoon.

As a PC monitor for Windows 8.1 I use LG Smart TV.

How to connect to TV from Windows 8.1 to WiDi understood simply in the Wireless Display must choose the right once to enter a password, etc. Everything is working fine.

But how to initialize the connection from the TV?

LG Smart TV function is turned "Miracast / Intel 's WiDi" scans the network for devices that support this feature. After the scan, a list from which you can select the desired device. This way I can, for example, to connect to the Android smartphone with the "Wireless Display". However, this list does not include PC Windows 8.1, the TV does not see it.

Widi & Windows 8.1 problems

Hi,

I have a Belkin Screencast adapter and an ASUS Zenbook UX31A.

I have updated Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 and launched the latest Widi software to check the configuration. With Windows 8.1, it is no longer necessary to have the Widi application.

The problem is that when I connect my Belkin adapter from the charm menu, the connection with the PIN code is successful, then my PC screen goes black and my TV displays "Connection in progress"...... Then my PC screen goes back to my Windows desktop and my TV returns to "Ready to connect".

So, the connection fall down and it is impossible to connect it correctly. I repeadted theses steps and the connection is always stopped before displaying anything on my TV....n

All my drivers are up to date... Do you have solutions ?

Any wiki page on Win81/Miracast problems?

There are multiple threads with many posts on the Miracast/WiDi problems on Windows 8.1.

Is there a wiki or similar page that summarizes the problems and potential solutions?

I'm also unable to get it to work on:

Windows 8.1 + Update 1

HD 4000 graphics

2230 WiFi

Latest drivers/software for the above

Sony W653 TV with latest firmware

The furthest I was able to get is to see "Add wireless display" in the Charms/Project menu. I could also find and add the TV from "Devices and Printers".

But when selecting the display in the Charms/Project menu I would get something like "Unable to connect".

I can't completely rule out a problem from the TV side because the setup process and usage there is also cryptic, as well as underdocumented, but since the TV hardware and software are fixed, and seeing all the problems reported here on the forum, I tend to believe the computer side is to blame.

WiDi and WiFi Simultaneously

Hi, I have Lenovo Y580 with the latest i7 processor.  After getting Win8 working and all the drivers(intel) working, I finally got WiDi working.

My problem is that when I have connected to my TV using WiDi it stops my WiFi connection making it impossible to stream from the Internet or Media Server.

I have ran the Intel update tool and every driver is up to date.

Not sure what is causing this, but does anyone know how to fix this

Many thanks in advance

How to enable Miracast logging?

How can one enable Miracast logging on Win8.1 and the latest drivers? I'm unable to establish a connection, and I want to figure out why.

I found a mention of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Intel Corporation\Intel WiDi\LogEnable=1 (DWORD), but there's no such key here. I assume this was for the Win8 WiDi software, rather than 8.1's integrated Miracast.

By the way, the TV is Miracast certified: http://certifications.prod.wi-fi.org/pdf/certificate/public/download?cid=WFA20372

Intel WiDi Update Tool - Installation Failed

Hi,

We are currently rolling out WiDi to our Business laptops however some of these are having installation issues where WiDi will not install, we have also tried using the WiDi Update Tool to no avail.

Ideally we are trying to run the latest version of WiDi which we have had no problems installing on some of our other G1 laptops as well as our G2 laptops, this being 4.2.29.0

We are presented with this error: This platorm is not compatible with Intel WiDi. Your wireless card is not compatible with Intel WiDi - this is false information as works correctly on other laptops of the same spec.

Laptop Model: HP EliteBook Revolve 810 G1

Wireless Driver: Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 15.12.0.6

Graphics Driver: Intel HD Graphics 4000 9.17.10.2932

OS: Windows 8 Enterprise x64

We ideally need a solution to remedy this so that we can push it out to all laptops in the business.

WiDi Remote not opening.

Hello all, recently I've been having problems opening my WiDi Remote program, though Intel Widi itself seems to be working. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Remote, but to no avail. Any solutions to this issue, or alternative programs to Remote?

Image freezes, but the cursor moves freely

I've got two different laptops with the same connectivity issues.

One is a Lenovo X1 Carbon and the other is a Lenovo Yoga. Both have the same graphics adapter (Intel HD Graphics Family... I can't find a specific model number anywhere), and they both use almost the same graphics driver (Carbon uses 10.18.10.3496, Yoga uses 10.18.10.3412). They also have the same network adapters (Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260)

I use a Netgear PushTV3000 hooked up to a Hitachi projector via HDMI. I can connect pretty easily the first time around, but after about 10 seconds, the image hangs. The cursor, however, moves around the wireless display no problem - it's just that nothing else will show up. Whatever window was up when the image froze remains up there regardless of what's going on on the laptop - but, again, the cursor moves with no lag. If I "Pause" the connection in the WiDi software on the computer and then Play it, I get about another 10 seconds of life before the same thing. The firmware on the Netgear is up-to-date.

I have one laptop that works without a hitch. It's a slightly older and less robust Lenovo X230. It has Intel HD4000 graphics and an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 wireless adapter. Works great with widi.

While writing this I tested another laptop and had the same freezing issue. This one was an Lenovo L440 with Intel HD graphics 4600 and a Centrino Advanced-N 6235.

So that's three newer laptops freezing, and one older laptop with no problem. I can also use my HTC One phone to connect with no issue.

Any ideas?

hi,

I have the above configuration (i7 2620M + radeon 6450M + Centrino Advanced-N 6230 + Win 8.1) and I cannot enable WiDi. I have done the following:
- update wireless drivers to Wireless_17.0.5_Win64 = success

- installed Intel My WiFi Dashboard_15.6.0_64.msi = success

I have tried to install Wireless Display Software for Windows but I get 2 errors (video hardware is not compatible with WiDi + the graphic driver cannot load necessary components for Intel WiDi) with a link to "System requirements for Intel WiDi - Support Knowledge Base".

Also, when I run "Intel(R) WiDi Update Tool.exe", all I get is the following (error) message "Your system has an Intel Graphics adapter that is not supported by this update tool".

I have tried to disable the display adapter from Device Manager and I get an "Windows Basic Display Adapter"

So, based on the requirements, my system should be compatible with Intel WiDi.

Please help

Thank you,
Catalin

Intel WiDi on Windows 8.1

Hi,

I had a couple of questions regarding using Intel WiDi on windows 8.1:

  1. The "Auto-Connect" feature seems to be missing from the Windows 8.1 WiDi software. This was available in the software available for Windows 7, has this been removed in Windows 8.1? If yes, is there anyway I can achieve the similar functionality?
  2. I wan to make WiDi as my primary display, i.e, open Windows start-up I want the Intel WiDi module to automatically scan and search for Wireless display adapters and connect to them and start streaming the content to it. The current behaviour is that the WiDi adapter is considered a secondary display, so I need to manually switch the display to the secondary display.

Please let me know if any further information is required from my side to answer these queries.

Thanks & Regards,

Nachiketh
