I recently purchased a new laptop, and one of the advertised features I was excited for was WiDi compatibility. It is an Asus N550JK -DS71T, with the below relevant features:
Intel i7-4700HQ CPU
Intel HD 4600 Graphics
nVidia GeForce GTX 850M GPU using Optimus switching
Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 WiFi card
Windows 8.1 x64 (core/non-pro)
However, even though everything seems to check out, I can't get WiDi to work. I try to run the Setup4.2.29.0.exe program, and it fails with "This platform is not compatible with Intel(R) WiDi. Your operating system is not compatible with Intel(R) WiDi. Everything seems to check out, but it's just not being agreeable.
If I run the WiDi update tool at Support for the Intel® Wireless Display (Intel® WiDi), it says everything is OK. "No updates required, WiDi is ready to use. Use the charms to add or connect to your wireless display device."
Following the instructions from the "Close and learn how to connect page", when I swipe in, go to Devices, and "Project", I only see the 4 options "PC only, Duplicate, Extend, 2nd Screen only". Nothing regarding Wireless display options.
Is there something else I need to check, install, or update to make this work? I'm trying to connect to a Netgear PTV3000, which I can see and connect to via Devices and Printers, thought that does nothing. It does not make it appear as a valid display device whether connected or not.
Thankfully I can use the WiDi adapter with some other devices I have, but I would love to use it with my laptop.
